DESCRIPTION:Join us for a technical program and lunch \nWednesday\, October 15\, 2025\n9:00 AM-4:00 PM \nIBC & IFC Fire and Smoke Protection Features\nFull-day ICC Seminar \nLocation Details: San Marcos Activity Center\, 501 E. Hopkins\, San Marcos\, TX \nProgram: This seminar provides a comprehensive review of the fire and smoke protection methods established in Chapter 7 of the IBC\, which must be maintained in accordance with the IFC. The concepts discussed present the basis for analysis and identification of which building components require fire-resistance ratings and/or smoke-resistance. The presentation also explores requirements for construction of building components\, including continuity of fire protection and structural stability and protection of openings with fire door assemblies\, fire window assemblies\, penetration firestop systems\, fire dampers\, and smoke dampers. \nPresenter: Doug Thornburg\, AIA\, CBO has been actively involved in building code administration and training for 45 years. Most recently\, he served as the Vice-President and Technical Director of Products and Services for the International Code Council (ICC) where he began employment in 2004. Prior to ICC\, he was in private practice as a code consultant and educator on building codes for nine years\, and he served for ten years with the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) as Vice-President of Education. Doug began his career working for the City of Wichita\, Kansas\, initially as a building inspector and later as a plans reviewer and before being selected as building codes administrator. \nDoug is nationally recognized for his work in creating and presenting building code seminars\, and he is also well known for educational texts and resource materials that he developed\, including the IBC Illustrated Handbook and the Significant Changes to the International Building Code book series. In 2008\, he was presented with ICC’s inaugural Educator of the Year Award\, recognizing his outstanding contributions in education and training.
